Loading and unloading plant is a potentially hazardous activity. With the chain of responsibility laws putting the onus on everyone within the supply chain, it is also important for road users’ safety that plant and equipment is loaded and secured appropriately.
This course gives you the skills and knowledge to safely and efficiently load and unload plant on trailers and/ or floats.
Course Overview
RIIHAN308F – Load and unload plant
This unit of competency describes the skills and knowledge required to load and unload plant. It applies to those working in site-based roles.
The course covers:
- Operational safety and risk management
- Calculating weight and volume of loads; centre of gravity
- Movement of different types of plant on and off trailer/ float
- Placing and securing loads – including types and limitations of restraints
- Hand signals and communication methods
- Reporting/ hand-over requirements.
The nationally recognised qualification RIIHAN308F Load and unload plant, is delivered under a third-party agreement by V.E.T. Centre (QLD) on behalf of All States Training RTO #32577.
All States Training RTO #32577 is the Registered Training Organisation that issues certification upon successful completion of the accredited course.
Course Outcomes
It is expected that participants should acquire knowledge, skill and understanding of the following areas:
- Prepare to load and unload plant
- Load the plant in line with established requirements
- Unload the plant in line with established requirements
Course Duration
This course takes 1 day of face-to-face classroom and practical training/ assessment.
What to bring on the day
Each person will need to bring the following:
- Steel cap work boots
- Long pants
- Sun protection
- Water bottle
- Lunch
Why do this course?
Loading and unloading plant is a high-risk, potentially hazardous activity. WorkSafe Queensland estimates that there are around 200 serious injuries involving mobile plant in the construction industry every year.
With the chain of responsibility laws placing onus on everyone in the supply chain, it is also essential for the safety of road users that plant is loaded and secured appropriately.
This course is necessary for workers who are involved in the loading and unloading of plant and equipment onto trailers or floats as part of their work routines.
