Operate and maintain chainsaws (Level 1) – AHCMOM213
Using a chainsaw can be hazardous. With a basic understanding of your chainsaw and how it is intended to be used, you can reduce or eliminate the risk of serious injury or a possible fatality.
This course gives you the basic skills and knowledge required for safe and competent maintenance and use of a hand-held chainsaw in a range of situations.
Course Overview
AHCMOM213 – Operate and maintain chainsaws
This unit of competency describes the skills and knowledge required to safely operate a hand-held chainsaw and maintain it in working condition.
The course covers the maintenance, preparation and operation of hand-held chainsaws in a work environment. It requires the application of skills and knowledge to cross-cut fallen timber using safe cutting techniques. It also covers the maintenance and servicing requirements of chainsaw powerheads and cutting attachments, chain sharpening, clean-up, storage procedures and recording requirements.
The nationally recognised qualification AHCMOM213 Operate and maintain chainsaws, is delivered under a third-party agreement by V.E.T. Centre (QLD) on behalf of All States Training RTO #32577.
All States Training RTO #32577 is the Registered Training Organisation that issues certification upon successful completion of the accredited course.
Course Outcomes
It is expected that participants should acquire knowledge, skill and understanding of the following areas:
- Assist in preparation of work-site
- Recognise and apply workplace safety procedures
- Check and maintain chainsaw
- Operate chainsaw
- Complete and check chainsaw operations
Course Duration
This course takes between 1 – 2 days of face-to-face classroom and practical training/ assessment, depending on the knowledge, skill-levels and experience of participants.
What to bring on the day
Each person will need to bring the following to each day of the course:
- Steel cap work boots
- Long sleeve high visibility shirt
- Long pants
- Sun protection
- Water bottle
- Lunch
V.E.T. Centre has a fully equipped chainsaw trailer and will supply the following: chainsaws; full personal protective equipment, including chainsaw helmet with visor and earmuffs and chainsaw chaps; all associated training equipment.
Why do this course?
Using chainsaws is a high-risk, potentially hazardous activity.
If you are using a chainsaw at work, you need to be able to demonstrate that you have been properly trained and formally assessed.
If you are using a chainsaw at home, you need to be safe and confident it its operation and maintenance.
This course is necessary for anyone who operates a chainsaw.
