This is an induction program where you will learn about safe work practices, risk management principles, safety signage, reporting procedures, personal protective equipment, relevant legislation and more.
Whilst this course is designed for new and existing workers in the building and construction industry, it is also relevant for workers in the pastoral and agriculture industries.
Course Overview
CPCWHS1001 – Prepare to work safely in the construction industry
This unit of competency specifies the mandatory work health and safety training required prior to undertaking construction work. The unit requires the person to demonstrate personal awareness and knowledge of health and safety legislative requirements in order to work safely and prevent injury or harm to self and others. It covers identifying and orally reporting common construction hazards, understanding basic risk control measures, and identifying procedures for responding to potential incidents and emergencies. It also covers correctly selecting and fitting common personal protective equipment (PPE) used for construction work.
CPCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry is delivered under a third-party agreement by V.E.T. Centre (QLD) on behalf of All States Training RTO #32577.
All States Training RTO #32577 is the Registered Training Organisation that issues certification upon successful completion of the accredited course.
Course Outcomes
It is expected that participants should acquire knowledge, skill and understanding of the following areas:
- Identify health and safety legislative requirements of construction work
- Identify construction hazards and risk control measures
- Identify health and safety communication and reporting processes
- Identify incident and emergency response procedures
White Card: Upon successful completion of the course, the RTO will issue you with your general construction induction training card (white card).
Course Duration
This course takes 5-6 hours of face-to-face classroom and practical training/ assessment.

- Lunch
Why do this course?
Working in the construction industry can be hazardous. This course gives you the basic skills and knowledge to keep yourself and others safe when working on a construction site. It is necessary for new and existing workers in the building and construction industries AND for any other person wishing to attain a White Card.
A White Card is a mandatory requirement for anyone who wants to work in the construction industry. This course must be completed BEFORE entering a building and construction work site.
