Front end loaders are versatile machines which are extremely useful in agricultural and civil construction work. However, as with any machine, they do post risks if not operated correctly.
This course gives you the skills and knowledge to operate a tracked front end loader to shift loads safely and efficiently on a farm, station, construction or building site.
Course Overview
RIIMPO322E – Conduct civil construction tracked front end loader operations
This unit of competency describes the skills and knowledge required to operate a tracked front end loader to shift loads. It applies to those working in site-based roles.
The course covers conducting tracked front end loader operations in the civil construction industry including:
- Conducting machine pre-operational checks prior to commencing operations
- Assessing site and operating hazards
- Selecting equipment suitable to job requirements
- Operating the machine, including mixing materials
- Safe operation techniques
- Stripping/ spreading topsoil and materials, loading, cutting/ boxing, backfilling
- Attaching, securing, lifting, carrying and placing materials to meet job requirements
- Parking and shutting down the machine
- Transporting machine and equipment safely between worksites
- Carrying out machine operator maintenance
- Cleaning up after operations
The nationally recognised qualification RIIMPO322E – Conduct civil construction tracked front end loader operations, is delivered under a third-party agreement by V.E.T. Centre (QLD) on behalf of All States Training RTO #32577.
All States Training RTO #32577 is the Registered Training Organisation that issues certification upon successful completion of the accredited course.
Course Outcomes
It is expected that participants should acquire knowledge, skill and understanding of the following areas:

- Operate front end loader in line with established requirements
- Attach, secure, lift, carry and place
- Relocate the front end loader
- Conduct housekeeping activities
Course Duration
This course takes from 1 day of face-to-face classroom and practical training/ assessment depending on experience.
Training and assessment is conducted at the client’s premises, provided it has a suitable industry training facility and machine.

Each person will need to bring the following to each day of the course:
- Steel cap work boots
- Long sleeve high visibility shirt
- Long pants
- Sun protection
- Water bottle
- Lunch
Why do this course?
Front end loaders are versatile machines that can be extremely useful for agricultural and civil construction work. However, they are potentially dangerous if not used correctly.
If not operated correctly the front end loader can overturn, particularly when the loader is raised. The loader can contact power lines, loads can slip off, attachments can come loose, and the machine can strike or crush bystanders, all of which can cause injuries and fatalities.
If you are using a front end loader at work, you need to be able to demonstrate that you have been properly trained and formally assessed.
This course is necessary for anyone who operates a front end loader as part of their work routines.
