Course Overview
AHCMOM216 – Operate side by side utility vehicles
This unit of competency describes the skills and knowledge required to safely operate a side by side utility vehicle including undertaking pre-start checks and shut down procedures. It applies to individuals who operate side by side utility vehicles to undertake routine work under general supervision with limited autonomy and accountability.
This course covers the skills and knowledge required to undertake work using a side by side utility vehicle used for general transport, carrying loads, towing small trailers and mustering stock. You will learn how to prepare a side by side for use, operate it safely in a range of weather and terrain conditions, vehicle shut-down procedures and routine maintenance and record keeping.
The nationally recognised qualification AHCMOM216 Operate side by side utility vehicles, is delivered under a third-party agreement by V.E.T. Centre (QLD) on behalf of All States Training RTO #32577.
All States Training RTO #32577 is the Registered Training Organisation that issues certification upon successful completion of this accredited course.
Entry Requirements
Participants must be at least 16 years of age.
Course Outcomes
It is expected that participants should acquire knowledge, skill and understanding of the following areas:

- Operate side by side utility vehicle
- Complete side by side utility vehicle operation
Course Duration
This course takes from 1 day of face-to-face classroom and practical training/ assessment, subject to experience.

Each person will need to bring the following:
- Steel cap work boots
- Long sleeve shirt
- Long pants
- Helmet
- Safety gloves
- Eye protection
- Water bottle
- Lunch
Why do this course?
While they are safer than quad bikes, operating a side by side utility vehicle is a potentially hazardous activity.
Side by sides are not toys and can be hazardous to operate. They handle differently than other vehicles, such as motorcycles and cars. A collision or rollover can occur quickly, even during routine manoeuvres like turning, or driving on hills or over obstacles, if proper precautions are not taken.
This course is necessary for workers who use a side by side utility vehicle as part of their daily work routines and for anyone who uses a side by side for recreational purposes.
